Jaguar quality control: the only thing equal to Jaguar´s quality craftsmanship.
Every Jaguar depends on the exacting eye of skilled craftsmen to separate the extraordinary leathers and woods from the ordinary ones. Equally important are robotic quality control processes, like laser camera measurements, to ensure precise alignment of components like doors, hood, and trunk. After all, a vehicle´s quality can only be equal to the quality of the program that ensures it.
Halewood: Liverpool, England
The Halewood manufacturing facility in Liverpool, England, spares no expense to ensure every X-TYPE is up to Jaguar´s exceptional standards. From an on-site laboratory that tests incoming components to the five-mile test track that puts randomly selected finished vehicles through their paces, this state-of-the-art facility is second to none, the better to ensure the vehicles as well.
Simulated Testing
Jaguar´s wind tunnel testing does more than ensure aerodynamics. By measuring how airflow affects engine cooling, exhaust system cooling, climate control, vehicle handling, and interior noise, the testing helps engineers make adjustments for optimum efficiency.
Performance Testing
One of several Jaguar test facilities worldwide, the Nürburgring "Nordschleife" test track in Germany winds through 73 turns over 20 punishing kilometres. Jaguar engineers refined the X-TYPE´s exceptional handling, abundant horsepower and durability by subjecting vehicles to hundreds of closely-studied laps at continuous high speeds.
Four-Coat Paint Process
The four-coat paint process applied to every X-TYPE—an initial primer coat, which is then wet-sanded to ensure a smooth surface for a second primer, followed by a base coat, then a final sealer clear coat—ensures the famously deep, lustrous Jaguar finish.
Anti-Corrosion
Corrosion isn´t always obvious; frequently, it begins in the unseen crevices between body panels. Jaguar´s answer to the problem is to inject these crevices with wax, then place the vehicle in a special oven. The wax then melts, providing protection from the elements.
