Every Jaguar is engineered to place the safety of the driver and passengers above all other concerns. The X-TYPE design goes through rigorous crash testing to ensure that protection is both efficient and extensive. But equally important are the numerous systems that help prevent events from happening at all.

Occupant Seating

Sensors determine airbag deployment levels based on the driver seat position and the front passenger´s weight. If front passenger-side sensors detect a lightweight occupant like a child in a car seat, front passenger airbags are automatically de-activated and a warning light to caution the driver illuminates.*

Supplemental Airbags

Numerous airbag systems—including front and side-mounted airbags* offering supplemental security to the driver and front passenger, side curtain airbags to help protect front and rear passengers in certain side-impact collisions, and a knee bolster airbag, specifically to help protect the driver´s legs—are standard in every X-TYPE.

Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children

The Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH) system anchors child safety seats directly to the seating, helping to protect children directly without having to use the adult safety belts.

Dynamic Stability Control

Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) (optional on the X-TYPE 3.0, Sport, Sportwagon, and VDP Edition) helps stabilize the car when cornering, automatically intervening to help prevent skids by reducing power from the engine and applying the brakes to individual wheels as appropriate.**

Electronic Brakeforce Distribution
The Electronic Brakeforce Distribution system (EBD) uses sensors in the ABS to help detect if a rear wheel is about to lock under braking, proportioning brakeforce distribution between the front and rear wheels to correct the situation.

Anti-lock Braking System

The Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) helps maintain control under hard braking and adverse weather conditions. Without ABS, hard braking can cause the wheels to lock up, causing the vehicle to skid out of control.

Drive-away Door Locking/ Dual-stage Unlocking

Once the vehicle reaches a speed above 3 mph with the parking brake released, drive-away locking automatically locks all the doors and trunk, helping to ensure safety for both passengers and belongings. Dual-stage unlocking helps prevent unwanted entry through non-driver doors. Push the unlock button once to unlock the driver´s door; push a second time to unlock the other three doors.

Headlamp Illumination

When approaching the vehicle at night, passengers can enjoy the added protection of illuminated headlights, which remain on for a period of time when the headlamp convenience button on the remote control button is pressed.

Security System

Every X-TYPE key fob includes a comprehensive security system that includes a coded ignition and a perimeter alarm. Together, these features help foil anyone attempting theft of items from the car, or the car itself.
